Competition to Design a Medal Front for Award by the Automotive Applications Board Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining

The IOM3 Automotive Application Board (AAB) has proposed an annual award of a medal to the engineer who has made an outstanding contribution to materials in the automotive industry.

Terms of Reference

A medal will be awarded for advances in automotive material technology where it is judged that the recipient has introduced:

  • Novel application of materials
  • New method of assembly
  • New improved process technology
  • Advanced material science in the design and application of materials
  • A novel material structure
  • Enhanced the performance of materials

The medal will have the standard design of IOM3 on the back but AAB request designs from designers and engineers for a suitable design on the front of the medal. It is expected to reflect the qualities for which the award is to be made. However, the AAB are keen that youthful design initiatives should not be impeded and would encourage the design to allow radical thought. The only design rules are that it should fit on a 50mm diameter medal and be capable of fabrication in bronze.

This competition is now closed
